Animation between 1930-1950:

From 1930 to 1934 was the Iwerks era. UB Iwerks was a  friend and partner of Walt Disney. He was a technical innovator of cartoons and also did over 600 drawings for Disney studio’s including the first drawing of mickey. He produced 3 cartoons:

1.Willie-Goldwyn-Meyer

2.Flip the frog

3.Comi-colour for pat powers celebrity productions.

However, none of these were as big as the Fleischer or Disney cartoons. Iwerks worked for MGM (metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios - founded in 1924) in the animation division for a number of years after his time with Disney. However MGM eventually stopped making Iwerks cartoons due to them being unsuccessful and instead hired 2 up and coming animators called Harman and Ising. Iwerks returned to Disney in 1940 and worked on special effects until he retired in 1960.

Meanwhile Harman and Ising were briefly successful from 1934 to 1937. MGM studios hired the 2 from the van beuren studios. they were soon made head of the MGM studio.
while at MGM studios the 2 produced Bosko(popular looney toons character) and Happy Harmonies which was coppied from Disneys silly symphonies.

Both of these productions failed quickly in the theaters. MGM studios the replaced Harman and Ising with a cartoon producer named fred quimby. quimby was also the head of MGM studio and with his power he created and produced the comic book series called the captain and the kids.

 Although this cartoon also failed.

In 1939 Quimby hired Harman and Ising again. Ising then created Barney Bear which was the companies 1st animated star. although the companies biggest cartoon was tom and jerry which was created by william hanna and joseph barbera. the 1st ever tom an jerry cartoon aired in 1940.

After the success and awards Tom and Jerry reeled in the company hired Tex Avery in 1941 who brought the comapany some of its other big cartoon hits such as:
1.red hot riding hood

2.swing shift Cinderella
3.droopy
